Doubting being Different

Yo!
The past couple of weeks have been very rough for me. I have had big episodes of migraines and my foot has been playing up again. Since it was so hard for me to walk with crutches, I was using the wheelchair instead. We had to go out lots and when we did people would stare at me, kids would ask what’s wrong with me, and it all would make me feel a bit sad that they were treating me differently. This went on for a long time and I would try to act normal, but everyone was focused on the wheelchair. But now I have really had a think about it all. I already know that everyone’s different and unique. Who cares if people treat you differently. If I’m being honest, I get a bit more respect being in a wheelchair than walking with my own two legs! Strangers were more kind and considerate to me. I have no idea why I was so sad about the situation. I know that I am unique in lots of ways, and I want to show it! From now on I am going to wear funky, fluro ears when I want to, do a bit of dancing without being embarrassed, and just be myself! Being myself is how people like me, and want to be friends with me. Now I honestly don’t care if people stare at me or talk about me, because I will take the positives out of it. All this time people have been very kind. If you are on crutches, in a wheelchair, or have some sort of a disability, I don’t think you should be ashamed of it, be proud of it! Now you can relate to even more people and you will be able to share your experiences. I know I have already done that. When people ask, I explain what CRPS is, which means that I am raising awareness of my condition as not many people have heard of it…knowledge is power! Lots of other people have shared their conditions with me too.
If I were you, I would never look at the negatives of the situation, I would keep a really positive mind! Sometimes if you talk about the issue out aloud, it can clear your mind and you can have a fresh brain.
In my last post, I was doing a random act of kindness. If you think about it, you don’t really know the story behind people. Whether have nothing going on or everything going on, it is really nice to receive a little present, kind words or letter. For example: I have a friend that has something called Aspergers Syndrome. She has trouble understanding things and reading people. Nobody knows she has Aspergers, and so people would say jokes but she would take them seriously. It really hurt her most of the time. I think that if she received a little kindness from anyone she would feel much happier.
You don’t know what is going on in people’s lives if they don’t want to show it. This is how everybody is different. You never know who needs it more, so that is why you should be joyous to everyone. I am trying to make the world a happier place, and there is always room for help…

Random Act of Kindness: October

Hi hi!

It is October now and as I promised that I would, I have completed another random act of kindness. I like to do smaller acts of kindness throughout each day, but I also carefully plan a more thoughtful random act of kindness each month.You only need to take a look at the Kindness Blog or The Daily Good to see how many beautiful people there are in this world. Their stories have inspired me to do even more good deeds. My mission is to bring as many bright smiles to my hometown and the whole world as I can.

Attitude of Gratitude

Hello!

Today I will be talking about gratitude. The meaning of gratitude in the dictionary is:

“The quality of being thankful; readiness to show appreciation for and to return kindness” ~ Oxford Dictionary 2014.

I think this statement is a perfect definition because the way I see gratitude is to show and feel deeply in your heart, appreciation for things that you have been lucky enough to see, hear, smell, feel, experience, learn and enjoy. Let me tell you a little bit more about what I believe gratitude is, does and means to my life and could mean to yours…

I like to imagine that there is a little blue bird inside my heart and soul that has different kinds of strengths. The small bird tweets little nothings in my ear, but to me they are big something’s. It always shares its power of optimism against that cheeky pessimism, and my beautiful bird makes me feel very grateful to have it by my side. I believe everybody has a little bird. Sometimes you just haven’t searched deep enough to find it. It did take me a while to see and hear my blue bird, but it definitely helped me gain more strength than I ever thought I had. My little blue bird symbolises my gratitude. I always try to listen to my bird, every second of every day.

I recommend everyone to have a long, relaxing think about what you are all grateful for. I have a number of things I am grateful for everyday. Here are ten things that I feel like we should celebrate all the time, but remember there are more, many more!

1. Family… pets too!

Family and pets keep us company, show us their love, their support during bad times and they help us celebrate the good times.

2. Friends: You can be friends with whoever, whenever!

I find it amazing how we find our friends. When you meet someone you can feel that connection and know that you will be great friends for a long time. I love how everybody in Australia can be free and meet whoever they want.

3. Doctors… and don’t forget the nurses!

Doctors and nurses may seem a little scary at the start, but once you get to know them you find out how nice they are and that they only want to help you. When I was in hospital I met some great nurses. They would let me do their nails and they would bring me in ice-cream. They would also make me feel very comfortable when I was happy or sad. I made great connections with them.

4. Comedy: Humor and laughter!

I believe we all need a bit of laughter in life. When you are sad humor is there when you need it most. At any time of the day a bit of comedy can lighten the mood. You know what they say, “laughter is the best medicine!”

5. Smiles… not just your own, but others too!

It is very important to smile every day. There is nothing better than feeling good about yourself. Just one smile can lighten the day for many other people. Plus, it takes more muscles to frown than to smile! Always feel grateful for this beautiful feature on your face.

6. Nature: Sun, flowers, insects and even the scary ones!

Nature is a big part of life. You need the sun because you need a nice glow on the skin, flowers because they smell really nice and you can make pretty things out of them and insects because… they are a part of nature!

7. Fashion: Coco Chanel, Valentino, Pierre Cardin, Lisa Ho, Collette Dinnigan. (I love all their designs and hope to be like them when I am older!)

I have no idea what I would do without fashion! I love designing and I look up to these people. If we didn’t have fashion we wouldn’t have clothes, and if we didn’t have clothes being a fashion designer wouldn’t exist!

8. Experience: Bad things may happen in life, but you can take the experience and use it to make you stronger!

Experience develops important self-skills in life. Sometimes you learn more during bad times than the good times, which I think is great because without the little bumps, our lives would be completely boring! Having these detours helps us grow and explore a different path. If you think about it, without these lumps and bumps in life, we would be the same people, doing the same things, the same way, every day.

9. Other Important Things: Shelter, clothing and food!

We all need to remember how lucky we are to have these things in life. Shelter keeps us safe, clothing keeps us warm and food keeps us alive and doesn’t make us starve. Some people don’t get that, so we are very fortunate to have it.

10. Your Own Uniqueness: You shouldn’t pretend to be someone you’re not, because everybody is unique in their own way!

Everybody is different to each other. The best way to make friends is to relax and be yourself…that’s it! I don’t like it when people try to be a duplicate of another person because I can’t see who they really are. Plus, you get the best by showing how unique you are.

Writing lists about what you are grateful for really helps you see how and why everything that has happened to you. You are so lucky to be living in this world. I am positive that you will find your little bird, but it may not be a blue bird, it may be a pink owl or a purple eagle… Whatever you can see, shall be.
