Random Act of Kindness: September- Nursing Home Gifts

Standard

Hola!
Everybody knows that I love to complete very special random acts of kindness for very special people, and for this month I have chosen to give out my RAOK to some people that may seem invisible to others simply because they live out of sight – people in nursing homes. My grandma stayed in a nursing home for the last of her years and so that is another reason why I thought it would be nice to give out September’s random act to the citizens of a local nursing home. To keep my anonymity, I pre-decided to hand my gifts over to the nurse so that she could give them out to the people that she thought would love them most. Once I arrived at the nursing home, it felt a bit like a great big puzzle maze because there were different coloured  buttons we had to press and massive doors we had to pull and push…to be honest it felt a bit like an intelligence test! Thankfully I passed!! When I finally walked through the last door, the reception nurse saw me and a big warm smile came to her face. I explained what I had made and why and she responded with a mix of appreciation and sorrow in her voice, telling me that some residents don’t get a lot of visitors and some residents don’t get any visitors at all, so they would appreciate my present even more! It made me feel indescribably happy that she knew exactly who might need them most.

My gifts included a mini easel each with thirteen handmade quote cards that could be changed daily. I also selected a hanging wicker heart for all of my gifts and a sentimental foam superhero to remind the recipients of their super brave hearts.

To learn more about the nine packages I made there is a really short video below that explains everything, but I will say that I added a hint of FZ by glitterising a couple of things in my gift. I also have a picture of my note that I wrote just under the video, so I hope you enjoy watching this little clip of photos of me making and delivering this month’s random act of kindness!

I always like to remind myself that:

Random Act of Kindness: November

Standard

Aloha!
As you know I am due to do another random act of kindness for November. Each month I come up with a new big random act of kindness and then blog about it. My last one got people hunting for me on the local radio station and on Facebook, but I like to stay anonymous because I don’t want anything in return, I just like to think of people having big smiles on their faces when they receive my handmade gifts and letters. The most awesome part was that the whole community started talking about what random act of kindness they would do! It was really crazy being an unknown celebrity for a while!

This month I chose to sprinkle some kind energy towards 3 of the emergency services: Police, Ambulance and the CFA (Fire Fighters). I am focusing on the emergency services because I believe that people don’t always appreciate how lucky we are to have these incredible people looking out for us everyday. They are working dangerous jobs and without them we wouldn’t be as safe as we are today.
This time I made 31 pencil toppers! It took me 1 month to sew, decorate, glue, and name each of the them.IMG_9315

I sewed 1 unique wish into each topper by hoping with all my heart and using heartfelt words, so that whoever holds one will have a special feeling or experience happen to them (e.g: optimism/courage/persistence/love/feeling determined/attracting genuine compliments/receive a free coffee etc).IMG_9319[1]IMG_9316

I also included 1 scratchie per package. I wrote in each letter that if they win the $10,000 that they have to throw a massive party to celebrate how awesome they are (You can read my letter at the end of this post). I have my fingers crossed that all of them win!

IMG_9323
The gifts were lots of fun to make and the great part was that I could be as creative as I wanted! I made bunnies, circles, squares and hearts in lots of different colours.IMG_9317

IMG_9311

I got to select which group each pencil topper went into too. It was like creating families out of pencils! IMG_9318[1]

At the end I wrapped them up and decorated the packages with stickers.

IMG_9320[1]

Then we posted them and in a couple of days the emergency services will receive this random act of kindnesses. It is very exciting! This is always my favourite part…when the gifts get sent off to those that need or deserve them.IMG_9322

It makes my heart feel really full when I think about how much happiness is getting spread around the world.
I hope that people will be inspired to do a small random act of kindness today and make someone feel really happy!

Have a happy day!

Kindness is Contagious

Standard

G’day maties!
I have recently been working very hard on a special project that I would like to share with you. I decided that I wanted to make gifts of pet rocks for strangers and to give them to people in the mall. First off, I bought a packet of small rocks. Next, I painted little smiley faces on them. After that, I glued bobbly eyes on the rocks. They looked adorable! Then I found a quote I liked, it said “Kindness is Contagious”.  To add a little ‘Fluro Zebra’ to it, I hand wrote “Infect the World!” Next, I printed out 20 and laminated them to make it a bit more special. I bought little bags to package the rocks up pretty, and made tags (out of zebra print wrapping paper of course) for a background to the quote. I also made individual birth certificates and wrote a poem to go with the pet rocks.  I stuffed some green stuffing in the bottom of the bags to give soft padding to the pets. I named each of the rocks after some of you, my beautiful followers, because you all inspire me so much.  At the end of doing all the creative work, I packaged them up and made sure they were ready for when I delivered them. When the morning arrived, I was a bit nervous, but excited! My goal was to put smiles on faces. I went to the mall with my family, and approached two ladies shopping. When I talked to them, I said I had made a gift and asked them if they wanted one. It was quite funny, because they asked me how much for one! I told them they were free, and that I am just trying to bring smiles to the world. So they took one and replied “thank you”. I felt so happy that my first approach went well. The next person did the same, they thought it was for a donation. So I told them the same, how it is just to bring smiles. From then on, I asked “would you like a FREE gift?” instead of just “a gift”, it worked much better! I also scored a few hugs and happy tears from strangers, which was nice. 🙂 Once I had given out all the pet rocks to the teens and adults, I had little pom-pom critters to hand out to the younger kids. Everybody left with a big grin on their faces.
I am doing random acts of kindness because I would like to give people a big smile. I want the world to be a calm, peaceful and happy place. I believe that I can make a difference. I think everybody can make a difference. You don’t have to do a big thing like what I have done. Giving a smile to somebody you don’t know, using good manners or opening doors for strangers could make their day, and maybe even make yours too. Small things like that can make a big impact on someone’s life. At the end of the day, I was hoping to inspire people to do those simple things. Maybe you have inspired someone today; you never know. So please remember, you can do a really simple thing, and it can turn out to make a BIG difference. Every month I would like to do a random act of kindness, who would like to join me?!

Howdy-do!

I have again wanted to show you something crafty I have done.  I have created three different handmade paper prints that I call,  ‘Funky Paper’. I will give you instructions below and visuals on the attached video about how to make them, so that you can do it too. They are pretty easy and lots of fun to make!  Once you finish creating the Funky Paper, you can make lots of little decorations, such as a card, a pen holder or maybe a bookmark. It is all up to you what you do with the paper. You will be amazed with how your imagination works! But… you have to watch the video I have made to find out what I have created with them. This video is going to be spectacular and you will love it! I will only give you one clue and one clue only about my creations on my video, the title. The rest you will have to find out yourself when you watch the clip. Now please, sit back, relax and enjoy my video!

CRUMPLED-TEXTURED LOOK

  • Scrunch an A4 sheet of copy paper over and over until it feels soft like tissue paper.
  • Flatten out the paper on your desk.
  • Paint stripes, swirls and dots of food dye onto your paper.
  • Allow to dry completely before use.

GRAINY-TEXTURED LOOK

  • Set a white A4 sheet of copy paper in front of you.
  • Use a liquid dropper to blend colours of food dye all over your page.
  • Sprinkle table salt over the wet page in swirls, lines or clusters.

Allow to dry and carefully shake off the excess paint before use.

GLOSSY-TEXTURED LOOK

  • Paint a pre-made mix of icing sugar and water over the entire space of an A4 copy sheet.
  • Use droplets of food dye to colour over the (now glossy) white paper. The dye will run, swirl and blend itself around the page in an interesting manner.
  • Allow the paper to dry fully before using.

“Good art is not what it looks like, but what it does to us.”
~Roy Adzak~

Hello!
I may not be a professional artist, but creating art makes me feel good inside. I have made a piece of artwork today that I would like to share with you. This is a type of paper and paint collage art. Art is a great way to show what you are feeling. I have taken inspiration from lots of different artists. I used paint, patterned paper, book pages and a canvas. It may have taken over a day to finish, but it was fun and worth it because at the end of the process, I think it looked spectacular! I would definitely recommend it for anyone with a passion for arts and craft. I have uploaded photos of the process below. Although it takes a while to complete, it is very easy and is plenty of fun. You can draw whatever you like to express who you are. I will be sure to undertake this type of artwork again and hope that you will try it out too!

The Nature of Art

Standard

IMG_6479

Hi guys!

Whenever I am a bit sore or too tired to do anything active, I like to create art. I found a lady that made artwork out of nature and I decided to have a go at it. Her name is Justina Blakeney. She is really clever! Her artwork is titled ‘Face the Foliage’ and Mum showed me her account on Instagram.

Yesterday we drove to the park and went on a hunt for different coloured leaves, flowers and lots of other treasures from nature. Once we had collected all the things I needed for my art project, we went home and I started doing a plan on a blank piece of paper. Then I started the real thing and thought I would share how I did it with you. I am not going to tell you what the picture is because it is for me to know and for you to find out! Have a guess and let me know what you think it is and you will find out the answer at the end of this short clip…

Bunnilicious News in Fluro Land!

Hello everybody!

As some of you know, I was getting a pet rabbit. I thought it would be a female, but when I went to pick out my rabbit I had a better connection with a male. So, on the 17th June 2014, it was time to bring home my precious bunny and let him meet the rest of my family. I named him Tommi. He is completely black with dark brown eyes. We bought an inside hutch for $25. It was broken and wasn’t very pretty, so that was why it was so cheap. But  mum and I fixed it up by first putting everything back together, then we simply did what I do best… MAKE-OVERS!!! We spray painted the hutch, and I also made a little sign with his name glued to it. The colours turned out fantastic and they went well with my room too! Once we had finished the hutch it was the day of getting Tommi. He has no idea how much we did for him! We repainted my room cream, (before it was purple) bought a new bed spread, painted nearly everything in there and went out shopping for decorations such as little lanterns and peaceful scents. I wanted everything perfect before Tommi’s arrival so he felt comfortable in our new shared space. My theme colours were pale pink, white and cream so that Tommi would stand out.  I was going for a nice, peaceful vibe. Tommi loves a good cuddle and jumps around crazy, and his poops remind me of tiny rumballs without the coconut on them! The only thing is that we have also got an inside cat. At first we were worried that she may hurt Tommi, but then we waited to see what would happen and it turns out that she is scared of him! It is because she is used to animals  running away from her, but Tommi was not frightened one bit, in fact he wanted to do nose kisses with her, but everytime he sniffs her she runs away terrified! Each day we bring him out to her so she can get used to him around, and she is slowly adjusting to it all. Family can be a bit tricky to get used to at first, especially when at the start you were the center of attention, but when you get to know each other a little bit better, you figure out that they can be your best friend that always looks out for you no matter what happens. It is very interesting how family works, but it means that you are very lucky to have them. Even a friend can be family, so just remember how you are very special to have people that love you!
My family have encouraged me to work through my pain in my foot. They also make me laugh whenever I am not happy, keep me lots of company and think about me and show their support in the things they say and do. That is how much they love me!

“Family, like branches on a tree, we all grow in different directions, but our roots keep us all together”
~Author Unknown~

That’s all I have to say for today,
